Type 2 Dm – Risk of Retinoapthy Increases After Cataract Surgery
According a new population-based study by Dr. Ching-Yu Cheng of the Singapore Eye Research Institute and colleagues,
the adjusted risk of retinopathy was 1.7 times higher in diabetic patients who had undergone cataract removal.
Diabetics have higher risk of developing cataract.
Cataract surgery can worsen existing Diabetic retinopathy.
Diabetic patients undergoing cataract surgery should be informed about the risk of developing or progression of Diabetic retinopathy.
They should also undergo more frequent retina check – ups.
