As per a Survey, Eighty percent of patients implanted with trifocal intraocular lenses(IOLs) never require spectacles as compared to one with monofocal IOLs( only 8%). Most patients require glasses after cataract surgery with monofocal IOL implantation and even multifocals affects contrast sensitivity with increased photic phenomena. The TFNTOO (Panoptix, Alcon, Fort Worth, TX) is the only FDA approved trifocal, can also correct astigmatism and has improved mean photopic monocular distance corrected intermediate visual acuity (DCIVA) as compared to monofocals.

Few patients(5%) do report  starbusts and halos at month one and six  with trifocals but most of them neuroadapt at three-six months and don’t find it bothersome. Considering its safe and successful implantation rates and post surgery results, trifocals looks promising for future cataract surgeries.
